Stephen also expressed his concern about Bristol's financial services industry, "Royal Sun Alliance announced the closure of its office in my constituency, Bristol, West, with the loss of 500 jobs. There is much uncertainty in Bristol about our financial services industry, and I hope that closure is not a warning of things to come."
He also commented on the rise in applications to university and expressed disappointment at the fact that the 15,000 extra higher education places promised last year had been cut back to 10,000 by the Labour government. Stephen Williams MP said, "It is clear that thousands of young people will lose out on a university place this summer. Clearing, for many years a feature of university applications, will probably not occur this year."
