Stephen Williams MP Defends Rights and Freedoms at Bristol's Convention on Modern Liberty

Stephen Williams MP spoke at the Bristol regional meeting of the Convention on Modern Liberty on the 28th February. The event was sponsored by Rowntrees, openDemocracy, Liberty and the Guardian.
Stephen Williams MP criticised the Labour government's erosion of civil liberties and made reference to the Liberal Democrat Freedom Bill, which contains twenty measures to restore the fundamental rights that have been stripped away in recent years, including scrapping ID cards, restoring the right to silence in the courts and removing innocent people from the DNA database.

As a staunch defender of rights and freedoms, Stephen Williams MP said, "Liberalism is the soul and the most meaningful guarantee of civil liberties in this country".
