Stephen Williams MP Expresses Dismay at Loss of BBC Casualty to Cardiff.

Bristol West MP Stephen Williams has expressed his dismay at the BBC decision to move production of popular TV drama 'Casualty' to south Wales.

"I am disappointed but not surprised by this decision. The BBC has seemed set on this move ever since it was first suggested a year ago. I made my views clear to the BBC then and several times since," Stephen commented.

"The BBC must remain a national organisation that fairly represents the English regions as well as London, Scotland and Wales. I have been a fan of Casualty for twenty years and have enjoyed spotting all the Bristol based scenes. It is important that we have contemporary drama with West Country accents shown on BBC1.

The show was also the anchor for a lot of Bristol independent technical production crews and gave opportunities for budding actors in small parts and walk on roles. I support the BBC in its strategy to move more production out of London. But moving drama from Bristol while leaving production of Casualty's sister show 'Holby City' in London is a slap in the face for Bristol."
