First Great Western, who run the line, finally revealed this week that the cost of such a service could be up to £1 million. However, Mr Williams believes that Council Tax payers should not be the only people to stump up the cash.
Stephen Williams said "We hear a lot of rhetoric from Labour about how much they care about climate change and now is the time to put their money where their mouth is. They are quite happy to put tens of millions of pounds into new roads in Bristol, but not a penny for the railways. This money is chicken-feed on a national scale, and I believe the overcrowding on this service shows that the local demand is there. It is unfair however, to expect the Council Tax payer to fork out even more for this. Council Tax bills are high enough and always result in the poorest being hit the hardest. Blair's government has a duty to make this happen."
