The contest will be screened on ITV West between 13 and 16 November, with two candidate projects going head to head each night, competing for viewers votes. This is the second year of the ITV/Big Lottery Fund collaboration, which, last year, saw 200,000 viewers voting to share out £2.6 million between 53 local projects. This year will see a total of 84 awards and £4.2 million of funding voted on across the country, with regional runners up now gaining bonus awards. The Albany Green and Play Area Regeneration project in Montpelier, Bristol will be competing with the White Lion Park project in Malmesbury, Wiltshire on Tuesday 14 November. The winner will be announced on ITV regional news the following day.
Mr. Williams said: "The Albany Green and Play Area Regeneration project is an excellent candidate to receive this funding. The money will be used to rejuvenate an urban area that has, for too long, been subject to vandalism, graffiti, fly-tipping and neglect. I am delighted that the community has this opportunity, and I know local councillors and residents have worked hard on a bid which would involve the local people working together to create valuable community green space and a safe children's play area."
Local Lib Dem Councillor for Ashley Ward, Jon Rogers said "Success on 14th November will give the area such a positive boost. Albany Green would be a great place to visit on foot or on bike. Don't forget to vote!"
