Stephen Williams said, "I, like many of my constituents have been appalled by the unfolding humanitarian disaster in Lebanon. The Prime Minister should have demanded a ceasefire weeks ago. Instead he has once again followed the lead of the White House. He must now be made to come before the House of Commons so that his policy can be questioned by MPs."
The Liberal Democrats are key signatories to the cross-party letter to be delivered to the Leader of the House of Commons calling for a recall of Parliament.
"If Parliament had not been in recess the Prime Minister would have been expected to make a statement on the current crisis in the Middle East. Given the uncertainties and worsening situation in the Middle East, Parliament needs to be recalled as a matter of urgency. There is already considerable public anxiety relating to Government policy. Parliament must now have a chance to discuss the Government's and UN's strategy in detail. The need for an immediate ceasefire is as pressing as ever."
