The award was presented by the Association of Colleges in Westminster on Tuesday 16th May. The Further Education National Consortium (FENC) is a non-profit making provider of on-line learning solutions to the education sector. The award is designed to promote the best use of Learning Resources to help meet the needs of both tutors and pupils. It is open to applications from centres or departments within any further education, sixth form or tertiary college in the United Kingdom.
The City of Bristol College's entry, "Developing effective IT facilitation material", aims to create a flexible training facility that would cater for learners across the community, encompassing a wide variety of ages and abilities. The institution has nine centres across Bristol and specialises in IT.
Judges decided that The College had made education resources easily accessible to tutors and learners, adding that they had devised and implemented an innovative system to increase the effective usage of a variety of learning materials.
Stephen Williams, the Lib Dem Shadow Minister for Higher and Further Education said of the award "It is always a pleasure to see the institutions of Bristol recognised as being leaders in their field. The City of Bristol College plays a vital part in increasing the life chances of local people and I heartily congratulate them on the hard work that has gone into securing this award."
