Stephen Williams MP plays table tennis with leukemia sufferer, Katie, at CLIC House in Kingsdown
Bristol West MP Stephen Williams has highlighted the role played by voluntary organisations in the care of young cancer sufferers. He visited CLIC House in Kingsdown to talk to staff, patients and their families. The organisation helps to support young people and their families whilst they receive treatment at the Bristol Children's Hospital, providing everything from advice to entertainment and accommodation.
Stephen said "When we talk about the NHS it is too often in the context of finance and budget sheets. We forget that behind the ambulances and operating theatres there are thousands of charities and volunteers providing vital services financed by the fundraising efforts of thousands of people. In CLIC Sargent we have a fabulous example of how medical success rates can be improved by investment in things other than doctors and medicine."
