Stephen Williams said "Banks have cut their costs dramatically over the last few years by closing branches and installing cash machines instead. They now have the gall to allow other companies to charge people for withdrawing their own money, while washing their hands of the matter.
"This is an issue which disproportionately penalises those on low incomes. Furthermore in certain situations, for example if a lone female needs cash for a late night cab home, the charges could potentially be very dangerous."
