Commenting on the Early Day Motion (No.829) that he has tabled,Stephen Williams said "It is important that the government acts to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies. Any move to erode young people's right to confidential advice risks scaring teenagers away from seeking essential guidance.
"Doctors are already able to breach confidentiality where this is necessary to protect them from serious harm such as sexual abuse. However, making disclosure compulsory in all cases would actively work against aims to reduce teenage pregnancies and reduce the rate of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's).
"At a time when the government is presiding over a massive deterioration of sexual health, they must avoid this backward and unsupported step. Signing my Early Day Motion is a way for MPs of all parties to highlight the importance of confidential sexual advice. "
