Veteran politician Lord Rodgers is the latest high profile visitor to Bristol West. Bill Rodgers visited to back Liberal Democrat candidate Stephen Williams in his campaign to win Bristol West. He was pleased to be back in Bristol West - the seat where he fought his first election, as Labour candidate in the 1957 parliamentary by-election. In 1981 he was a member of the 'Gang of Four' former Labour cabinet ministers, founding the Social Democratic Party along with Roy Jenkins, Shirley Williams and David Owen.
After greeting parents at Bishop Road Primary School Lord Rodgers said, "I was delighted by the positive response. When I fought Bristol West almost fifty years ago it was considered a safe Tory seat. It is incredible to think that the Tories are now running third and a Liberal Democrat victory looks likely."
